Time to create, reflect and connect 

Writers Victoria in partnership with Edenhope Artist Residency will be offering two Writers Victoria members a two-week residency in November 2026. This opportunity is exclusive to Writers Victoria members. One residency will be awarded to a First Nations or culturally and linguistically diverse writer. 

Residency details 

Nestled in the heart of western Victoria, surrounded by native bushland and the tranquil waters of Lake Wallace, this residency invites Writers Victoria members writing in any genre to spend two weeks immersed in creativity and quiet reflection in the artists house at Edenhope Artist Residency. 

The residency includes 24/7 access to the studio building attached and your own private room. Please note that the residence is self-catered (no meals provided).  

From Melbourne, you can travel to Edenhope via train and bus. By car it is approximately 5 hours from Melbourne. 

About Edenhope Artist Residency  

  • The house accommodates up to four artists at a time, each in a private room. 
  • Each bedroom also has a heating/cooling split system that is independently controlled.  
  • All bedding and towels are provided and each room has a single bed, lockable cabinet, hairdryer, desk, mirror, USB device charger, shelves and clothes storage.  
  • The rooms are lockable from the inside. 
  • Located in the centre of town close to shops and the pub. 
  • Across the road is Lake Wallace, with a 5km walking track around it and barbecue facilities.

While the writer is in residence, there are no creative expectations, but after the residency they are invited to present a seminar or workshop, either in person or online, with Writers Victoria. 

Key dates:

Applications open: Monday10 August 2026 at 9am

Applications close: Tuesday 1 September 2026 at 5pm.

Dates of residency: November 2026

The two successful applicants will receive:   

  • A stipend of $500. 
  • Free accommodation for the duration of the residency. 
  • 24/7 studio access. 

This residency is generously supported by the Grace Marion Wilson Trust.

FIVE SISTERS FUNDED RESIDENCY OPEN CALL!

Applications are now open for the Five Sisters funded artist residency stay for 2026.

The Five Sisters annual residency program at EAR is funded by the descendants of David and Mary Burns and their five daughters Teenie, Belle, Jean, Nellie & Jessie, who all grew up in Edenhope at the start of the 1900’s. All five sisters raised their children in and around Edenhope and a generation of first cousins had a childhood connected by place and by family.

Each November, for the last 35+ years, the descendants of these five sisters have gathered to celebrate the strong family connections and grow new friendships and stories.

In recognition of the special place that Edenhope is to this family, this funded residency aims to connects artists and the community.  The aim is to support creativity, connect the community with creative practice and give back to the place that has nurtured this family.

This funded place covers the residency fee for a stay at EAR, plus a $500 stipend, offering an artist the time, space, and quiet needed to focus on creative practice in a regional setting. The selected artist will have access to the residency accommodation and studio facilities including a printing press, 3D printers, sewing machine, large format printer, and dedicated work space.

Please note: travel, materials, and living expenses are the responsibility of the artist.

Applications close on 20th April 2026.

Funded Place Artists Announced

EAR is excited to announce the four artists selected for the funded places supported by West Wimmera Shire Council. The artists will be coming to EAR later in 2024 and early 2025.

The selected artists for this special round of funding are:

We had over 240 applications and we would like to thank all the artists and acknowledge the time and effort that went into each application. It was inspiring to see the high standard of applications and the diverse range of artistic projects submitted from all around the world.

A great article about the funding EAR has recently received from the local council. It will be used to buy equipment and to provide 4 artists with funding to attend the residency and provide a small stipend to help cover their expenses. More information will be available soon about how to apply for one of these sponsored opportunities. The equipment will be available for artists to use during their stay and will also be used as part of our workshop offerings open to everyone. Click on the link above to read the full article.

Planning Permit Approved!

After years of planning and drawing and redrawing, changing plans and starting from scratch many times over, finally after submitting my plans to council 6 months ago they have been approved!

EAR is going to happen. Now to find a builder – I’ve been searching for two years now to find a builder willing to work on my project and sadly have not found one yet! They all seem to be too busy or can’t even be bothered to reply to my emails or phone messages. Clearly there is a gap in the market for builders willing to work out the country!
