Özlem Guler

As an emerging artist, Özlem Güler brings together her interests in traditional fine arts painting and drawing, environmental themes, and sociological perspectives to develop a unified and evolving practice. During her Edenhope residency, she shifted from traditional landscape painting toward more conceptual and socio-environmental art, engaging with the local community to explore their relationship with the natural environment and the challenges it faces. Away from her home on the Far South Coast of NSW, the residency provided a space for new and divergent thinking, enabling her to experiment with mixed media—including painting, drawing, and photography—in response to community feedback. The resulting work forms a foundation for her ongoing arts-based research and speaks to contemporary society’s complex connection with the natural world.
